Facilities Custodian

The Facilities Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment across all office spaces, restrooms, and shop areas. This role plays a critical part in the day-to-day appearance and hygiene of our facility, ensuring all employees and visitors experience a consistently well-kept workplace.
Responsibilities
Daily Tasks
- Empty and replace trash receptacles throughout the facility, including offices, breakrooms, and common areas
- Clean and sanitize all restrooms, including toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures
- Wipe down breakroom surfaces, tables, countertops, and exterior of appliances (microwave, refrigerator, coffee station, etc.)
- Spot-clean interior of microwave and address any spills inside the refrigerator as needed
- Restock all restroom and breakroom consumables, including hand soap, toilet paper, and paper towels
- Sweep and spot-clean high-traffic areas as needed
Weekly Tasks (Off-Hours Shift)
- Vacuum all designated office areas and workspaces (performed during off-hours to avoid disrupting staff)
- Mop all hard-surface office and breakroom floors using appropriate cleaning solutions
- Deep clean microwave interiors and refrigerator shelving/drawers
- Inspect restroom and supply inventory to anticipate restocking needs
- Wipe down common area surfaces, baseboards, and entry areas
Shop Maintenance
- Operate a ride-on or walk-behind floor scrubber in the shop area to control dust and maintain cleanliness
- Follow all safety protocols when operating floor cleaning equipment
- Report any equipment malfunctions or facility maintenance issues to the appropriate supervisor
General Responsibilities
- Maintain custodial supply inventory and communicate low stock to management
- Follow all company safety, chemical handling, and OSHA guidelines
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the janitorial storage area
- Perform other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
- Prior custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance experience preferred
- Ability to operate floor cleaning equipment (floor scrubber experience a plus)
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper dilution ratios, and safe handling procedures
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and a reliable work ethic
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods
Desired Skills and Experience
This position works in a mixed environment that includes climate-controlled office spaces and a shop/warehouse setting. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying temperatures in the shop area should be expected. Appropriate PPE will be provided.
Additional Requirements
Schedule
This is a full-time position working a split-shift schedule designed around business operations (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
Standard Shift (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday): Approximately 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM, allowing daily cleaning tasks to begin while staff are present and continue after hours for uninterrupted office cleaning.
Deep Clean Shift (Saturday) Bi-Weekly: Early morning or alternate off-hours shift to perform Vacumming, mopping, and other tasks that require the building to be unoccupied.
Specific shift times are subject to adjustment based on facility needs and management discretion.
