We are looking for a Director of Finance to own financial planning, budgeting, and business partnering across Plantd. You will be the senior-most finance leader below the executive team, responsible for turning strategic plans into rigorous financial models and giving department leaders the tools and discipline to execute against them.

This is a high-ownership, high-impact role. You will build the budgeting process, partner directly with engineering, ops, BD, agriculture, and HR leadership, and shape the financial narrative for our board and investors. You will work directly with the CEO and have visibility into every major decision Plantd makes.

‍

Responsibilities

  • Build and own the annual operating budget, bottoms-up, by department, with clear accountability
  • Maintain rolling forecasts: 13-week cash, 12-month P&L, and 3-year strategic model
  • Drive monthly budget vs actual reviews with department heads and executive leadership
  • Build unit economics models including cost per panel, gross margin by product and customer, and contribution analysis
  • Lead capex planning and ROI analysis for production equipment, facility expansion, and harvest scaling
  • Partner with leaders across the company on headcount planning, hiring ROI, and resource allocation
  • Run scenario modeling for production ramp, yield variability, pricing, and capital deployment
  • Own board financial materials, KPI dashboards, and investor reporting
  • Support fundraising by building the model investors see, preparing diligence materials, and engaging with prospective investors alongside the CEO
  • Partner with the accounting team to ensure forecasts and actuals reconcile cleanly
  • Establish financial discipline and process as we scale, without slowing the business down

‍

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • 8 to 12 years of experience across finance pedigree and operating roles
  • Background in investment banking, management consulting, PE, or VC, plus operating experience at a growth-stage company (manufacturing, ag-tech, climate, or hard-tech strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to build a budget process from scratch or scale one through rapid growth
  • Expert-level financial modeling skills, capable of building a 3-statement model from a blank sheet and defending every assumption
  • Strong business partnering instincts; you make department leaders better at their jobs, not just track their numbers
  • Excellent communicator who can present to executives, boards, and investors with clarity and confidence
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, fast-changing priorities, and building before processes exist
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field; MBA, CFA, or CPA a plus

‍

Additional Requirements

  • Experience with manufacturing cost accounting, BOMs, and yield economics
  • Worked at a company that scaled from $20M to $100M+ revenue
  • Background in climate, materials, or industrial sectors
  • Familiarity with modern FP&A tools (Mosaic, Pigment, Cube, Anaplan)

‍

Compensation

  • Competitive base salary, performance bonus, and meaningful equity in a venture-backed company
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Direct access to the executive team and a real seat at the table on strategic decisions
  • The chance to build the finance function at a company replacing one of the largest, most carbon-intensive material categories on the planet
