About the Role
As a Research + Development Assistant at Biohm, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our transdisciplinary research efforts spanning biology, chemistry, engineering, and design. Working closely with our transdisciplinary research teams, you will contribute to the development and execution of research projects aimed at advancing our understanding of bio-based materials and technologies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cuttingedge research and contribute to innovative solutions for regenerative development.
Key Responsibilities:
• Experimental Design: Assist in the design and planning of experiments, including literature reviews, protocol development, and selection of appropriate methodologies and techniques to address research objectives.
• Laboratory Work: Conduct laboratory experiments and procedures under the guidance of senior researchers, following established protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to generate reliable and reproducible data.
• Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, record, and analyse experimental data using laboratory instrumentation, software tools, and statistical methods, summarising findings and identifying trends or patterns for further investigation.
• Sample Preparation: Prepare biological, chemical, and material samples for analysis or testing, including sample processing, extraction, purification, and characterisation, ensuring accuracy, precision, and compliance with experimental requirements.
• Instrumentation and Equipment: Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation, performing routine maintenance tasks, troubleshooting technical issues, and calibrating instruments as needed to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures, data, observations, and results, documenting findings in laboratory notebooks, electronic databases, or research reports according to established guidelines and standards.
• Literature Review: Conduct literature searches and reviews to gather background information, identify relevant research studies, and stay informed about developments in relevant fields, synthesising and summarising findings to inform research design and interpretation.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams, including biologists, chemists, engineers, designers, and other stakeholders, contributing insights, ideas, and expertise to collaborative research projects and initiatives.
• Communication: Communicate research findings, progress updates, and experimental outcomes to colleagues, supervisors, and project stakeholders through written reports, oral presentations, and scientific publications, as well as participate in research meetings and discussions.
• Safety and Compliance: Adhere to laboratory safety protocols, procedures, and regulations, maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with ethical standards, institutional policies, and legal requirements for research conduct and data management.
• Professional Development: Stay abreast of advances in relevant research fields, technologies, and methodologies through continuous learning, training, and professional development activities, seeking opportunities to expand knowledge and skills in areas of interest and relevance to research projects.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Systems Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Materials Science, or related field).
• Previous experience working in a research laboratory or academic setting, with hands-on experience in experimental techniques, data collection, and analysis.
• Strong technical skills and proficiency in laboratory operations, instrumentation, and data analysis software.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced research environment.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and interact professionally with colleagues, supervisors, and external collaborators.
• Attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to accuracy, precision, and quality in all aspects of work.
• Flexibility and adaptability to navigate evolving research priorities, project requirements, and experimental challenges, with a proactive and positive attitude towards learning and professional growth.
